GUIDED NZ RENTALS – VEHICLE DAMAGE & ACCIDENT POLICY

1. Immediate Actions After an Accident or Damage

If any accident, collision, or vehicle damage occurs, the renter must:

• Stop the vehicle immediately in a safe location
• Turn on hazard lights
• Check for injuries and call emergency services (111) if required
• Notify Guided NZ Rentals as soon as possible
• Do NOT admit fault or liability to any third party

Failure to report an incident immediately may result in full financial liability for the renter.

2. Information Collection Requirements

The renter must collect:

• Name, phone number, and address of other drivers
• Vehicle registration numbers
• Insurance details (if available)
• Names and contact details of any witnesses
• Photos of all vehicles, damage, and surrounding area

Photos must be taken even for minor incidents.

3. Police Notification

Police must be contacted if:

• Any person is injured
• Another driver leaves the scene
• The vehicle is stolen or vandalised
• Required by New Zealand law

A police report number must be provided to Guided NZ Rentals where applicable.

4. Mechanical Damage or Warning Lights

If any dashboard warning light appears or mechanical issue is suspected:

• Stop driving as soon as safely possible
• Contact Guided NZ Rentals immediately
• Do NOT continue driving if the vehicle may be unsafe

Damage caused by continuing to drive with warning lights or faults may not be covered by insurance.

5. Insurance and Excess Responsibility

All rentals include standard insurance with a stated excess amount.

The renter may be required to pay up to the full excess for any accident or damage regardless of fault, unless prohibited by New Zealand law.

Insurance may become invalid if:
• An unauthorised driver was operating the vehicle
• The driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs
• Rental terms were breached
• Incorrect fuel was used
• Reckless or dangerous driving occurred
• The accident was not reported promptly

If insurance is invalid, the renter is responsible for all repair costs, third-party damage, recovery, and associated expenses.

6. Windscreen, Tyre, and Undercarriage Damage

Damage to windscreens, tyres, wheels, or the underside of the vehicle is the renter’s responsibility unless proven to be caused by a verified external incident.

Extra caution must be taken on gravel roads or construction areas.

7. Recovery, Towing, and Storage

If the vehicle requires towing or recovery due to accident, driver error, or prohibited use, all recovery and storage costs will be charged to the renter.

8. Post-Rental Damage Discovery

Guided NZ Rentals may inspect the vehicle after return.

If damage is discovered that was not reported, the renter may still be charged for repairs and associated costs.

Photographic records taken before and after rental may be used as evidence of condition.

9. Agreement

By renting or operating a Guided NZ vehicle, the renter confirms they understand and agree to follow this Vehicle Damage & Accident Policy.
